Starting split from our Iowa budget planner. Your priorities should move it: spend more on your top 3, less everywhere else.
How much does a wedding cost in Iowa?
The average Iowa wedding costs about $21,000, according to The Knot's state figures as reported by SoFi (2026). That is well below the national average of $34,200 from The Knot 2026 Real Weddings Study (10,474 couples married in 2025). The average wedding had about 117 guests.
Your guest count is the biggest lever. Food, drinks, chairs, linens, invitations and favors all grow with every name on the list, and so does the size of venue you need.

How to make your budget work
1. Pick your top 3 priorities
Food? Photos? A packed dance floor? Spend more there and save everywhere else. This one decision makes every later choice easier. Our planning roadmap walks you through it.
2. Ask family before you sign anything
Ask privately what, if anything, parents plan to give, so your total is real before you put down deposits.
3. Keep a buffer
Set aside about 4% for surprises: overtime, extra rentals, tips and the things nobody remembers until the week of.
4. Track every deposit and due date
The free budget planner tracks estimates vs. real costs and shows every payment coming due, so nothing sneaks up on you.
5. Compare local vendors
Get at least two quotes per category. Browse Iowa venues, photographers, DJs and caterers, and ask them questions right from their listings.
